VGP – Israeli President Reuven Ruvi Rivlin will begin tour to Viet Nam on Sunday to discuss with local leaders ways to promote the bilateral cooperation across fields and compare notes on regional and international issues of common concern.
As the bilateral relations are advancing quickly, the two countries can still do better, said President Reuven Ruvi Rivlin in an exclusive interview with Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper ahead of his week-long visit.
He hopes that the Viet Nam-Israel free trade agreement will be signed early next year to create a firmer foundation for trade exchanges between the two countries.
The two-way trade volume rose to US$1.2 billion in 2016 from US$68 million in 2005. Viet Nam’s key exports include telephones, footwear, coffee, cashews, textiles and aquatic products.
As of January 2017, Israel had 25 valid projects in Viet Nam with total investment capital of over US$46 million, ranking 56th among 116 countries and territories investing in the Southeast Asia.
Israel pledged to provide US$250 million in credit support for Vietnamese enterprises that have business connection with Israeli counterparts.
Both countries are looking towards expanding cooperation in science and technology, especially agricultural technology and biotechnology, water treatment, telecommunication, food safety, and health care.
