The working group had a dual purpose, according to Phung The Long, Vietnam Consul General in Perth. One the one hand it was used to help determine how the two economies could deepen their relationship.

On the other hand, it was to search for ways the two entities could pair and collaborate in the entire Asian region.

Mr Long said the relationship with Western Australia was warm and strong but he wanted that relationship to have better economic outcomes. We’ve got commercial trade but it could be much stronger.

Dr Vo The Truyen from the Western Australia Vegetable Growers Association argued for stronger collaboration in climate change and agriculture, noting that if more isn’t done to put the brakes on climate change it would be devastating.

He also noted that Vietnamese agriculture could benefit tremendously from Western Australia’s advances agricultural technologies in such areas as packaging, post-harvest technologies and cultivation techniques.

The working conference was jointly held by Western Australia Vietnam Business Council and Vietnam Consulate General in Perth.
